Kusmi Buttons #1 Caramel

This waxy shellac is made in a heat process called polymerization, in which small molecules are squeezed together to make larger molecules. It can be used to strengthen the hardness of a final shellac product or to recreate an accurate vintage look and feel.

Kusmi Buttons #2 Dark Brown

Kusmi Buttons #2 are also polymerized and used to produce historically accurate finishes. They are deep brown in color and create a different hue than the #1 buttons.

Acryloid B-72 (Acrylic Resin)

B-72 is a thermoplastic copolymer that is soluble in a variety of solvents. It can be used as a barrier coat from which to build a finish or as an additive to help enhance the film qualities of shellac.

Manila Copal (Gum Copal)

These light, clear rocks can be used as an alternative to shellac for recreating certain period finishes or as an additive for adding gloss and plasticity to spirit varnishes.

Dark Garnet (India)

This is the darkest shellac available. It has a brown-amber tone (with a green cast). It is an excellent choice for any red toned woods, such as Mahogany and Cherry.

Dewaxed Garnet (Germany)

This shellac is the finest grade available today. It has a ruby orange tone and is widely used instead of dewaxed orange. This flake is excellent for White Oak and Birch.

Dewaxed Blonde (Germany)

Shellac most commonly used as a barrier coat between layers or as a transparent final coat. This German shellac is available in the summer and fall. Asian dewaxed blonde is available in winter and spring.

Dewaxed Orange (India)

These flakes produce a classic tone that has been applied to more wood than any other type of flake shellac. It produces a hue similar to seedlac (another popular flake shellac, but is more amber in nature).
