Wood Samples

Burled Walnut

A beautiful sample of a highly figured wood. One man’s disease is another man’s treasure. This grain pattern is created when a growth (infection) is formed on the tree. Burls are highly sought after by skilled craftspeople.

Crotch Mahogany

Another highly priced figured hardwood. Crotch grain is found when a tree trunk grows outward and creates a crotch or meeting point in the base. Larger trees produce the most amazing examples.

Quarter Sawn Oak

Most commonly used wood in replicating an Arts & Crafts or Mission period. When finished with natural resins and mineral salts, it yields fantastic age and depth.

Alder

Fine hardwood found in new homes or remodels. The grain pattern mimics cherry. This hardwood allows for the craftsperson to manipulate and create many different period themes.

Vertical Grain Douglas Fir

Softwood, which was commonly used in homes during the late 1800s through the early 1900s. Fir can be easily controlled to create finishes that were commonly used in this era.
